To qualify for surgery, your BMI must be at least 40.0. You may also qualify if your BMI is greater than 35.0 AND you have at least one medical condition related to your weight, such as diabetes, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, or high blood pressure. Be aware that some insurance companies have different requirements.
Interpreting your BMI score:
Underweight: Below 18.5
Normal: 18.5 to 24.9
Overweight: 30.0 to 34.9
Obesity: 35.0 to 39.9
Morbid Obesity: 40.0 to 49.9
Super Morbid Obesity: 50.0 and above
